Why Do Agile Projects Succeed (or fail)?

We had an amazing turnout for this session. In fact, we moved to a larger room about 15 minutes in. We identified 50 reasons why agile projects succeed (or fail) and then engaged the experience and wisdom in the room to rank them. And we finished a few minutes early!

Here are the top several tiers of success (or failure) factors:

Tier One

Frequent Delivery of Value
Aggressive Automated Testing

Tier Two

Team Trust
Self-Directed Work Teams
Great People
Team Members Not Understanding Agile (Failure)

Tier Three

Co-Location
Clear and Shared Definition of "Done"
Clear Tech and Product Vision

Tier Four

Flexibility
Frequent Retrospectives
Realistic Team-Based Measurements
Fear of Telling the Truth (Failure)
Lack of Customer Involvement (Failure)
Corporate Powers Fear Losing Command and Control (Failure)
